Joseph P

Joseph P. Rem, Jr. (Rutgers Law School - Newark, Juris Doctor 1975) graduated valedictorian of his high school class, and received his college degree in mathematics summa cum laude .  He is admitted in the State of New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.  

A former law clerk to the Honorable Bruno L. Leopizzi, J.S.C., he was an Assistant Prosecutor with the Office of the Passaic County Prosecutor from 1976 to 1978.  Mr. Rem is a trial attorney with extensive experience.  In 1981 he was certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Criminal Trial Attorney , part of the first group in the history of the State of New Jersey to be so certified.  As a civil trial attorney he has tried and won many cases, including a 1995 celebrated wrongful death case in which the jury awarded over four million dollars to the daughters of a deceased mother. 

An active member of the Bergen County Bar Association Board of Trustees, he is a former President of its Young Lawyers Section and former chairman of both the Municipal Court Committee and the Certified Trial Attorney Committee.  He currently serves as Chairman of the Bar Association's Criminal Practice Committee and he served for four years on the New Jersey Supreme Court Ethics Committee.  He is currently a member of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers-New Jersey, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and serves on the Municipal Court Committee of the New Jersey Supreme Court.  He has been quoted in the New York Times, Time Magazine, The Record and the New Jersey Star Ledger , and has appeared on CNBC-TV and WWOR-TV.  Mr. Rem authors and publishes a monthly publication for the Bergen County Bar Association entitled Criminal Law Update and is a frequent lecturer on criminal law, trial tactics and municipal court representation. 

Criminal Law - Joseph P. Rem, Jr., one of the firm's founding partners, has been awarded the status of Certified Criminal Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court.  A former county prosecutor, Mr. Rem has been representing persons accused in municipal courts, Superior Court and federal courts for over 25 years.  Currently a Trustee of the Bergen County Bar Association and Chairman of its Criminal Practice Committee, and former Chairman of the Municipal Court Committee, he is an active member of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey.  Well-known in the area of drunk driving defense, Mr. Rem has both prosecuted and defended murder, drug, white collar crime and child sexual assault cases.  He publishes a monthly compendium of the latest criminal law developments and practice tips called the Criminal Law Update.
