Mr. Steinfeld is an honors graduate of Johns Hopkins University and received his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1985. He is admitted to the N.J. State and Federal District Courts, the Second and Third Circuit Courts of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court. He was an Assistant Deputy Public Defender with the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, Appellate Section, from 1985 to 1988, handling Criminal Appellate work in the Appellate Division, New Jersey Supreme Court, and Federal District Court. From 1988 until joining Rem, Zeller in 1994, Mr. Steinfeld practiced criminal defense and civil litigation with prominent firms and attorneys in Northern New Jersey. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Bergen County Bar Association and Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, NJ and the American Immigration Lawyers Association; Coordinator and Leader, New York Lawyers Group, Amnesty International, 1986 to 1991; member, Legislative Coordinator, and Vice-Chair, Individual Rights Committee, New Jersey State Bar Association, 1993 to present; member, Criminal Practice Committee, Bergen County Bar Association, 1993 to present; Chair, Juvenile Practice Committee, Bergen County Bar Association, 1998-present; Volunteer Attorney, ACLU-NJ, 1993 to present; Volunteer Attorney, Asylum Representation Project, Lawyers committee for Human Rights, 1991 to present.
