Three more charged in alleged South Hackensack bar fight

Criminal charges continue to flow related to an alleged bar brawl in January at a South Hackensack lounge. Authorities say that an argument broke out inside the bar on Jan. 27. The dispute escalated and turned into a brawl that was taken outside, according to Bergen County prosecutors. Shortly after the allegations broke out, prosecutors charged three people with a range of offenses, including violent crimes. Three more people were charged with crimes this week related to the alleged bar brawl.

Authorities say that six men were involved in the melee, three joining together on each side. South Hackensack Police claim that after the fight went outside five people suffered serious injuries. During the altercation, authorities say that a 19-year-old Harrison, New Jersey, resident got in a car and struck two other people. That teen was charged with two counts of attempted murder in late January.

At the same time that the Harrison man was charged, authorities charged a Lyndhurst man with aggravated and simple assault. A third man, who is from Garfield, was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault.

This week, three more men were arrested on charges flowing from the alleged brawl. Police accuse a Belleville man of using a hammer to bludgeon two of the Garfield residents who are also charged in the fight. The Belleville man is facing aggravated weapons charges. A Garfield man is charged with stabbing the Belleville man in the torso. The sixth man accused of participating in the fight is also charged.

The alleged melee obviously involves a chaotic scene with multiple people suffering injuries. Many different perspectives may be involved when a scene involves such alleged chaos. The range of charges includes serious allegations.

Generally, when multiple people are accused of participating in an event, the stories can be complicated. The government has the burden to prove its theory of the case against an individual--that means proving that the act or acts related to the charges occurred, and were committed in violation of the law. Each individual, however, has the right to an individual criminal defense.
