2 men detained in New Jersey robbery case

Two New Jersey men have been detained for their suspected involvement in multiple area robberies. Police took the men into custody following a gas station robbery on Oct. 20. The robbery occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at Valero Gas on Rt. 130 North.

The attendant there phoned police after the men reportedly fled the scene in a green car. According to him, they had approached him and demanded money. It was the second time the gas station had been robbed in the past two weeks, the first instance occurring on Oct. 12.

Several other robberies have occurred in Somerset and Middlesex counties recently, and police now say the men may have been responsible for those as well. The North and South Brunswick police departments worked together on the case, and the investigation is ongoing.

The accusations against the two men are serious, but they can seek legal counsel. They may wish to go to court and plead innocent to some or all of the charges, or they may wish to work with the prosecution to make a plea deal. In a plea deal, they might get lighter sentences in exchange for pleading guilty and foregoing a trial. Whether or not they decide to go to court may depend on the strength of the evidence against them. For example, eyewitness identification is not always reliable.

However, in a case like this one, an attorney may also wish to look at the circumstances surrounding the investigation. Police must follow certain legal procedures while investigating a case and detaining individuals. If the rights of the individuals were violated at any stage of the investigation, then a case could be dismissed.
