Man held on attempted murder, weapons charges

A 24-year-old New Jersey man was taken into custody by law enforcement officials on Dec. 15 on charges related to weapons offenses and attempted murder, authorities reported. Moreover, the charges reportedly stem from an incident in a Lodi apartment around 1:40 a.m.

In the apartment, police allegedly found an injured 61-year-old man on the living room floor with his eyes swollen shut and cuts to his face and ear. The apartment was reportedly in a state of ruin, with evidence of blood on the walls. The injured man was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

According to police, the two men got into an argument, and alcohol may have been a factor contributing to the hostility. The 24-year-old man then stabbed his friend, authorities said. However, authorities did not report discovering a weapon linked to the incident. The 24-year-old man was detained and booked into Bergen County Jail, where he was held on bail of $500,000.

The accusations brought against the 24-year-old man in this case are extremely serious. They typically lead to felony charges, which can result in serious, felony penalties upon conviction. The chances of serious accusations leading to felony penalties are determined on a case-by-case basisl yet, invariably, accused individuals may appreciably reduce those chances by working with a criminal defense attorney experienced in defending felony charges and well versed in the applicable laws.

With resources, knowledge and experienced-based insight, the attorney may develop a plan to contest the charges on various fronts. Another possibility might be negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors. While accused individuals retain the right to veto the deal, in many cases, especially when the prosecution's case appears invincible, it is the best option available.
