Men arrested for armed robbery

Three people in New Jersey were arrested on Dec. 4 due to their alleged involvement in a spree of armed robberies that occurred throughout Sussex and Morris counties earlier that week. Around 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, a man robbed several hundred dollars from a liquor store in Kinnelon. The man had his face covered and robbed the store owner at gunpoint with a long barrel gun. Later that night, a man by the same description allegedly robbed a gas station at gunpoint as well.

The next day, two men, one armed with a gun, robbed a pharmacy in Franklin at approximately 7:20 p.m. On Dec. 3, a Quick Check in Hampton on Route 206 was robbed at gunpoint as well. Police arrested a 20-year-old Basking Ridge man and charged him with one count of fourth-degree theft, one count of third-degree terroristic threats, three counts of possession of an imitation firearm, two counts of third-degree theft and three counts of first-degree armed robbery.

The Basking Ridge man faces charges in Morris County and Sussex County. He allegedly used a replica gun to commit the robberies, otherwise he'd be facing more serious charges. The assistant prosecutor contends that being a replica is immaterial in regards to the armed robbery offense. The other two men, aged 18 and 19, were charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery. The arrests were the result of a joint investigation between state police and local law enforcement.

People who are accused of committing violent crimes typically benefit from obtaining a criminal defense lawyer. Legal counsel may be able to help prevent the accused from making self-incriminating statements to investigators. Defense lawyers may also be effective in formulating a legal strategy that could result in an acquittal, dismissal or lesser charges for the defendant.
