New Jersey man arrested for DUI after leaving liquor store

According to officers with the Madison Police Department, a 46-year-old man was charged with drunk driving after he attempted to buy liquor at a liquor store on Feb. 17. The incident occurred around 7:27 p.m. after the man left the store driving.

Reportedly, an employee of Gary's Wine and Marketplace called police after refusing to sell the man alcohol. The employee apparently was concerned as he believed the man was intoxicated. Upon seeing the man drive out of the parking lot, he reported it to law enforcement while providing a description of the vehicle.

The employee reported the man left driving on Prospect Street. An officer reportedly located the man driving on Main Street and stopped his vehicle. Officers allege they were able to confirm that the man was intoxicated during their investigation, although they have not released any testing information, breath analysis or blood analysis results. The man is facing charges including driving while intoxicated as well as other motor vehicle offenses. After he was taken into custody, he was released on his own recognizance.

People who are facing allegations of committing a criminal offense such as drunk driving may want to consider seeking the help of a criminal defense attorney. Often, there may be defenses available in a case that may not be immediately recognized. Defense attorneys might be better able to identify potential defenses and then to assert them at trial. As case law changes every year, the possible defenses also change as well. A defense attorney might file evidentiary motions, negotiate possible pleas or fight his or her client's case all the way through a jury trial.
