New Jersey woman tells court she stabbed her stalker

An episode of domestic violence that occurred on Sixth Street in Hoboken, New Jersey, resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old woman. She was charged with stabbing a man and detained in the Hudson County jail.

Facing a charge for aggravated assault, she stated in her first court appearance that the man she allegedly attacked had been stalking her at her job. She said that he did not live with her but had been attacking her at her home.

According to the criminal complaint, during the altercation she reportedly stabbed the man in the chest and hand with a serrated 9-inch knife. His heavy winter clothes protected his chest where the knife left a red mark. However, his left hand that he used to fend off her attacks received a deep laceration that needed medical treatment.

When circumstances result in a person being arrested on criminal charges, that person might choose to seek help from an attorney. A defense attorney could guide a person through the court process while upholding his or her rights against a prosecutor only interested in making convictions. Unreasonably harsh penalties for violent crimes might be avoided with legal support. An attorney could advise a person on whether a plea of guilty or not guilty would be beneficial. Negotiations for a plea bargain that could potentially reduce charges and offer a lenient sentence might also be supported by an attorney. This information might prevent a person from pleading guilty to charges that the evidence may not fully support.
