4 taken into custody after New Jersey crash

Authorities say that four people were taken into custody after a crash near Madison Avenue in New Milford that occurred on March 25. Police arrived on the scene at about 11:40 that night but found only a BMW that suffered front end damage and airbags that had deployed. However, authorities did find the driver of the car as well as three children who were passengers in the car huddled near another car in a nearby parking lot.

The driver of the BMW was a 27-year-old man while the driver inside the other car was a 36-year-old man. Reports indicated that the two cars had been traveling together at the time of the accident, but the men denied having any connection to that vehicle. They also allegedly gave police incorrect information about who had been driving the vehicle.

Both men were cited for DUI, driving without a license and obstruction. The driver of the second vehicle was cited for driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle. Two others who were passengers in the vehicles were also charged with obstruction. They were eventually released from police custody and were expected to be back in court on April 6. The children who were in the crashed vehicle were taken to Holy Name Medical Center and released after treatment for minor injuries.

Drivers and others who are charged with criminal offenses may wish to talk to an attorney in order to begin creating a strategy to cast doubt on the charges and secure a reduction in penalties or a full exoneration. Possible defenses include casting doubt on witness testimony.
