New Jersey teacher accused of fondling girl

A 26-year-old New Jersey high school teacher is facing allegations that he fondled a student's breasts, kissed her neck and touched her legs and back during a meeting the two had together. Following an investigation, he was taken into custody on April 11 and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual conduct. He was being held with a bail of $150,000. Both the police department and the county special victims unit participated in the investigation.

According to authorities, the student went in to school early to work with him on an extra credit assignment, and the incident occurred at that time. Allegedly, she was also asked by the teacher to send naked photos.

The teacher has been placed on administrative leave. A statement released by a spokesperson for the school expressed the institution's concern and promised full cooperation with the investigation.

These types of charges can be serious. They have career as well as legal implications and may even affect where people may be able to live as well as other parts of their lives, and in some cases sex offender registration may be required. As a result, those who have been accused of charges such as these may want to consult a criminal defense attorney. In some cases, the attorney may choose to negotiate an agreement with the prosecutor that would involve the defendant entering a plea od guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for a reduced penalty. An attorney may also look at how the evidence was obtained and whether the defendant's constitutional rights were violated.
