Authorities report attempted sexual assault of 16-year-old girl

New Jersey authorities stated that a man allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl who was riding on a TRANSIT bus in Tenafly on July 16. Police released a sketch of the person who assault the girl on July 20.

The man allegedly attempted to talk to the girl while she was on the bus; however, she ignored him. When she got off at the Westervelt Avenue stop, the man allegedly followed her and attacked her. He then ran off after attempting to sexually assault her. The incident was thought to be isolated.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male who stood between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He was thought to be between the ages of 25 and 30. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a baseball hat, light shorts and had a slight beard. He also reportedly spoke with an accent. His identity was not known when the report was released.

In some cases, a person accused of committing a sex crime may decide to plead not guilty. The accused person may not have been involved at all and be dealing with false accusations. A criminal law attorney may assist with creating a strong defense against the charges. If the accused person has evidence that they were not in the area when the assault occurred, the attorney may present an alibi and witness statements to corroborate the story. If the person was misidentified, the attorney may find inaccuracies in the prosecution's eyewitnesses testimonies.
