Man charged with murder after body found in park

On Dec. 7, a New Jersey man was taken into police custody on a murder charge. Prosecutors believe that the man is responsible for the death of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found at a park in West Orange. The woman's family reported her missing on Nov. 23, and her body was discovered eight days later.

The acting prosecutor in Essex County said that the accused man knew the deceased woman, and he was with her in Orange on Nov. 22. Prosecutors said that there was no evidence that the man had been romantically involved with the woman. When the body was found at the Eagle Rock Reservation, it was reportedly covered with leaves and other debris. The death was declared a homicide after an autopsy confirmed that the woman had died from compression of the neck.

The defendant was held in the Essex County Correctional Facility after he was detained. He was offered a $1 million bail option, and his arraignment was scheduled to take place in Essex County Superior Court. In addition to a murder charge, he is facing a charge for disturbing human remains.

People who are facing charges for murder or other violent crimes may want to meet with a a criminal defense lawyer before speaking with authorities. Counsel could help them to build a strong defense against their charges while avoiding language that may accidentally incriminate them. If the defendant was injured during the incident, an attorney may use evidence of the injuries to prove that the defendant was acting in self-defense.
